Network
What is Network?.
It is the interlink between workstations terminals and other networked devices.
Network makes the way to different type of computers to inter communicate or share their data by using a common network protocol.
Protocol is playing vital role in networking but this must be the same to network computers.
In the early days computers were standalone. These causes difficulties -in intercommunicate between computers, managing the configration of the computers and need for more resources.
The problems caused by standalone computers were solved by Local Area Networks( LAN)- which makes the way to share
the data and devices with in a building. But Wide Area Networks (WANs) and Metropolitan Area Networks (MANs) sharing
data and devices over large geographical area. WANs share the data between countries but the MANs with in a countruy.
There are four main methods of connecting Networks:
i-Modem connection
ii- ISDN connection
iii- Gateway connection
iv- Bridge or router connectionin.
In early 80s Network caused problem in configiration but in 1984 OSI reference model was introduced by International Organization for Standardization (ISO) which was based on
- System Network Architecture-SNA
- DECENT- DECnet
-TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol)
those developed models allow Compatibility and Interoperability of networks.
There are hundreds of advantages and some disadvantages of the Networks.
