The Field of Sociology and Innovation Studies has been running a reading group since its inception in the Autumn of 2004. The reading group has worked through a number of texts including the collection of interviews with leading theorists conducted by Nicholas Gane, The Future of Social Theory, 2004, (Continuum); Aihwa Ong & Stephen Collier’s book Global Assemblages: Technology, Politics, and Ethics as Anthropological Problems, 2004, (Blackwell), and Lewis Mumford’s book The Myth of the Machine, 1967, (Secker and Warburg). University Lectures have been given by Professor David Morgan (Sociology at Manchester University) who explored the sociological imagination through considering Robert Merton’s book Social Theory and Social Structure, and Professor Mike Michael (Sociology of Science and Society at the University of London), who explored the possibilities of micro theory through the concepts of technoscience, identity and everyday life.
