GENETICS ON THE WEB

Examples of web sites that provides information on genetic or inherited disorders are as follows :

THE INSTITUTE FOR GENOME RESEARCH

Research at the institute have identified over half of the estimated 60,000-80,000 human genes.

Other genome determined by teams of scientists at the institute includes :

PROCEDURE FOR OBTAINING THE PROTEIN PRODUCTS OF A DNA SEQUENCE

GENE PRODUCT FOR THE DNA SEQUENCE : aggacggcagttctcacggtacgcatgtag

Diagram of the backbone structure of subtilisin

The OWL data suggests that the protein product could have come from five different micro-organisms belonging to the bacillus group:

SUBTILISIN

Secretion of this protease is associated with onset of sporulation; hence many mutations which block sporulation at early stages, affect expression levels of Subtilisin. However subtilisin is not necessary for normal sporulation.

One use of this protease is in laundry detergents, where its broad specificity for proteins that commonly soil clothing, is exploited.
