Teahouse Pub Event markes the concept of a permanent floating Teahouse pub to
be built in the Docklands at Canary Wharf. It will be the main focus of Chinese
food and drink in the Docklands uniquely blending the two popular British and
Chinese traditions. The Teahouse is a result of the immensely successful and well
attended Yan Huang International Chinese Arts Festival at Canary Wharf. This Festival
is a partnership between Continuuuum Arts and Canary Wharf Ltd. The event is funded
by TH2000 (Tower Hamlets) and is linked with the British Waterways Festival. The
Artistic Director is Hi Ching from Continuuuum Arts. The
Aayyaa Teahouse Pub will be located on a 42m x 9m floating pontoon moored at dockside
level. On it will be a Tea Pub Stall, drinks, snacks, mooncakes, feng shui, arts
and crafts, traditional medicine, fortune telling, face painting and a cyberteahouse
creating poems. The digital component will be an important one as a website is
being developed and dedicated to the Aayyaa concept. Behind the pontoon will be
a large barge reserved for the exclusive use of Chinese artists who will be performing
Teahouse songs, poems and musical solos. There
will also be Dragon Boat rides. In the evening, a display of fireworks will be
accompanied by Forbidden City, a Chinese band performing their brand of electrical
spirituality called Chinese Neon. They will be joined by the youth of the Chinese
Association of Tower Hamlets and Alpha Grove Community Centre who will be celebrating
their 25th Anniversary. The Event promises to be an excitng and eclectic one targeted
at the general public. CHEF AAYYAA is a contemporary, inventive, mad chef who
subverts the traditional image of Chinese chefs. Dressed in revolutionary Red
Guard gear, he presents the Aayyaa Teahouse Pub concept. |
