What is Social Enterprise?
There are many competing definitions of social
enterprise and our courses at UEL give an opportunity to examine them
critically. The main types of definitions are:
those which assume Social Enterprise is mainly
about commercial businesses who have a social purpose and mission
those which concentrate on voluntary sector (not for profit)
organisations becoming enterprising and financially sustainable rather than
dependent on grants
those which stress the role of social entrepreneurs maximising the
investement in and gains from social capital in the community
