for Urban Regneration and Social Enterprise
East London is a huge
urban regeneration area covering seven London Boroughs and nearly two million
people. The various government initiatives and urban regeneration partnerships
in the area all stress the importance of enterprise and community involvement
in the effort to improve the area. There is also a long tradition of voluntary
sector activity going back well over a century. Many settlements, community
centres, charitable trusts, voluntary organisations, religious groups and
community action groups combine to make the "Third Sector" in the
region. Together they represent an immense reservoir of social capital, a
significant part of the local economy and vast potential for enterprise and
development.
