Virtual Environments in Rehabilitation, Assessment and Training

The University of East London Group on Virtual Reality Applications to Training and Rehabilitation was established in 1995. Currently, membership of the group consists of Professor David Rose (email F.D.Rose@uel.ac.uk), Elizabeth Attree (Senior Lecturer), Dr Barbara Brooks (Senior Research Fellow), Tony Leadbetter (Programmer) and Ambi Ambihaiphan (Programmer).

The laboratory is equipped with a fully immersive system (using a head-mounted display unit and software supplied by Division, U.K.), and three desk-top systems (using Superscape software) together with a range of input devices - including the FasTRAK motion tracking system with multiple sensors.

      Specific Reseach Interests

Currently we are investigating the use of virtual environments (VEs) in people with brain damage:

      1. VEs in training procedural memory

      2. VEs in cognitive assessment and retraining (attention, memory, spatial skills)

      3. VEs in transfer of training

      4. VEs in occupational training.

      Current Collaborative Arrangements
