I am Professor of Psychology in the School of Psychology at UEL. Although my main area of teaching is in statistics (univariate and multivariate), I also teach on the Health Psychology course. My research interest is in the area of psychosocial aspects of chronic illness, particularly Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). I am interested in complicated interaction of psychosocial and biological variables which contribute to the experience of illness in people with chronic conditions. At present we are carrying out research into the cognitive function of people with chronic illness, and also carrying out a double-blind placebo controlled study investigating the benefits of a nutritional supplement for people with Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Publications include both scientific articles, and books for the layperson.
